Iron Curtain Trail cycling tour moves on to the Hungarian, Austrian and Slovenian borders

24.04.2009: Iron Curtain Trail cycling tour moves on to the Hungarian, Austrian and Slovenian borders

Speaking ahead of the start of the second stage of the cross border cycling tour along the "Iron Curtain Trail" German Green MEP and member of the transport committee Michael Cramer stated:

"This year marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the beginning of the reunification of our once divided continent. For almost half a century the Iron Curtain forcefully split Europe into East and West. The Iron Curtain Trail cycling tour aims to commemorate our history in an active way, while promoting sustainable tourism. That is why this summer hundreds of people will get on their bikes to tour 14 EU member states that were once separated by the Iron Curtain.

Following the successful first leg of the tour in Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria, we invite all to participate in the second leg in the natural park in Raab/Örség/Goricko."

(1) Second leg of the tour starts on Sunday 26th of April from Jennersdorf, near Graz in Austria. Trains to Jennersdorf allowing transport of bicycles will depart from Graz at 9.30. Following breakfast in Austria and lunch in Slovenia, dinner will be in Hungary: the tour ends at 9.45 pm at Szengotthard, with return to Graz via train, arrival at 10.53 pm.
